God

We believe that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven.

Christ's Return

We believe that Jesus Christ will literally return to earth.

Holy Spirit

We believe that God the Holy Spirit is active in convincing unbelievers of their need for salvation, and is the Comforter and Guide Who lives in every believer.

Bible

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life and faith.

Man

We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image, but that through the sin of the first man, Adam, mankind fell so that all men are sinners and need salvation.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Assurance

We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eternity

We believe that those persons who die in their sins without Christ spend eternity in Hell and those persons who die with their sins forgiven through Christ spend eternity in Heaven.

Baptism

We believe that water baptism is an act of obedience to the command of Christ and is by immersion after salvation.

Church

We believe that the church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head.

Government

We believe in the separation of church and state, but not in separation of God and government.

Affiliation

We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. If you are interested in finding out more about either group, click on the name to be taken to their website.

The Baptist Faith and Message (2000)

The cooperating churches of the Southern Baptist Convention have prepared a statement of commonly held beliefs known as the Baptist Faith and Message (2000). This document provides a framework to understand major doctrines of Scripture. The family of CBC fully endorses this expression of God’s Word.

Our Mission

We are a community of believers where Christ is exalted, and God’s truth is proclaimed.

WHAT DRIVES US

Core Values

Christiansburg Baptist Church seeks to create a culture where followers of Jesus organically believe, live, and share the Gospel of Christ for the glory of God. To accomplish this, we live, serve, and make decisions based on three guiding principles.

We Have One Source of Authority

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope (Romans 15:4). This means… we make decisions based on biblical precepts & principles.

We Have One Manner of Living

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35). This Means. . . We treat others the way God, in Christ, treats us.

We Have One Purpose for Being

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving (Colossians 3:6-7). Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel (Philippians 1:27).This Means. . . We believe, share, and live the Gospel of Christ for the Glory of God.

meet our Leadership

Our Pastor

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Major has a deep passion for helping others understand God’s Word more clearly and leading them to discover how the Gospel of Christ can change lives.

As a passionate Christian communicator, Major has served his fellow pastors through research work with the Docent Research Group and as a contributor to resources such as PreachingToday, Preaching.com, and the Evangelical Homiletics Society.

He and his wife Kim have three grown children. These days, in their spare time, they enjoy true crime podcasts, cheering on the Volunteers, and an occasional road trip.
