In Matthew 1:18–23, we meet Joseph, a man whose world has just been turned upside down. Mary, his betrothed, is pregnant—and the child isn’t his. But in the midst of this crisis, an angel delivers extraordinary news: this child is from the Holy Spirit. Joseph will call him Jesus. The world will call him Immanuel, meaning “God with us.”
For many of us, the doctrine of the incarnation feels like a theological topic best discussed in seminary classrooms. Instead, we want to hear something practical and useful now. But the doctrine of the incarnation—the fact that God came to earth—makes Christianity unique among all other religions. And it might be the most applicable and relevant theological truth for our everyday lives. It tells us what God feels for us, how he thinks about us, and what he has planned for us.
Join us this Sunday as we explore the incredible hope of the incarnation—God with us—and what it means for your life today.
